One of my favorite bands is Joy division. Formed in 1976 in Salford, Great Manchester. Originally called Warsaw, the band was formed by Ian Curtis, Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook and Stephen Morris.
I’ve been very inspired over the years by Ian Curtis’s vision of existence. The songs have an antisocial, dark tint but full of brutal honesty. I have always been persuaded by people who despite living in times where free expression was forbidden, they had the courage to be honest and liberal.
Tartan or plaid in the United States, is known to be a textile dominated by Mexican lowriders - Americans, located south of Los Angeles. "Pendleton plaid" is called the textile they wear and there are countless stores that manufacture and manufacture this pattern in T-shirts. This garment was born along with the lowrider movement since the 1940s. Today it is still worn as a symbol of pride.
The word "plaid" is sometimes confused or used to refer to the tweed fabric and weaving of small pictures, (also known as tartan pictures). But the reality is that, whatever the name is, this textile is connection. How can a garment, a piece of cloth become so important to many people and cultures?
Because clothes connect us, it’s the story behind them.
